Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at Brown
Senior Amanda Toke scored a team-high four goals in the loss.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Brown on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game. Senior Amanda Toke scored four goals for the Blue Devils (2-4) in the loss. The Bears (6-0) closed the game on a 10-1 run, which helped Brown pull away for the 21-9 victory.
Toke scored four times for the Blue Devils, including back-to-back goals early in the second half that helped CCSU cut its deficit to three goals with 17:21 left to play. However, after Toke scored to make it an 11-8 game the Bears scored seven straight goals to pull away.
Junior Brigit Hogan notched CCSU's final goal of the game with 1:16 left to play. She scored off a pass from freshman Marissa Soto. Sophomore Elyse Malecki also scored in the second half for the Blue Devils. Senior Claire Healy recorded the assist on that goal.
Sophomore Falynn McCartney, sophomore Madison Hughes, Malecki and Toke scored for the Blue Devils in the first half. Toke scored a pair of goals in the period, both came on free position shots.
Brown opened the game with three straight goals and led 4-1 with 25:28 left in the half.
Malecki scored the first CCSU goal and then a run of three straight scores by the Blue Devils tied the game at 4-4 with 17:32 left in the half. McCartney, Toke and Hughes each found the net during the stretch.
Toke added her second goal of the half later in the period to make it a 6-5 game, but Brown closed the first half with three goals to take a 9-5 lead into the break.
Toke finished the day with a team-high five points and three draw controls.
Toke now leads the team in goals (13), assists (5) and points (18) on the season. She also shares the team lead for draw controls (23) with McCartney.
Soto's assist was the first of her career. She also picked up a team-high three ground balls in the contest.
Junior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar played all 60 minutes and made eight saves. Her record falls to 2-4 on the season.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday, March 22 against Vermont. The Blue Devils will host the Catamounts at Arute Field for a 1 p.m. game.
