Women's Lacrosse Falls to Vermont
The Blue Devils will host Lafayette on Tuesday night.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Vermont on Saturday afternoon at Arute Field. The Blue Devils fall to 2-5 on the season with the loss. The Catamounts improve to 8-2 with the 22-7 victory.
The Catamounts jumped out to a 4-0 lead, which they increased to 14-6 by the half. Vermont limited the Blue Devils to a single goal in the second half to take the game 22-7.
CCSU had five different players score a goal with seniors Meaghan McCurry and Amanda Toke both registering two scores.
McCurry scored CCSU's first and fifth goals of the game. Her first score was unassisted, while freshman Marissa Soto assisted on her second goal.
Toke found the net with the help of freshman Alexandra Hooker for CCSU's second goal of the game. She also added the Blue Devils' fourth goal, this time with the help of junior Brigit Hogan.
Freshman Kelsey Murphy scored on a free position shot to register her first career goal at the 10:53 mark in the first half. Sophomore Falynn McCartney scored an unasssited goal to net CCSU's final score of the first half with 47 seconds remaining.
The Blue Devils lone score of the second half came with 27:30 left to play as sophomore Elyse Malecki scored off a pass from Toke.
Toke finished the game with three points, two goals and an assist. She also had three ground balls and four draw controls in the game.
McCartney also controlled four draws and the Blue Devils and Catamounts split the draws 15-15 for the game.
Sydney Mas and Vanessa VanderZalm scored seven and six goals, respectively, to lead the Catamount offense.
Junior Morgan Tullar allowed 20 goals and made seven saves in goal. She falls to 2-5 on the season with the loss. Freshman Kristin Stolen played the final 13:20 of the game and allowed two goals, while collecting a ground ball.
The Blue Devils will host Lafayette on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and then host Howard on Saturday at 1 p.m.
