Soto Named NEC Rookie of the Week
Women's lacrosse freshman Marissa Soto was named NEC Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Central Connecticut women's lacrosse freshman Marissa Soto was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. Soto earned the honor after notching her first career goal and assist over a pair of games for the Blue Devils last week.
Soto posted her first career goal against #18/19 Stony Brook last Thursday. Her first career goal came in the second half as she beat the goalkeeper with a free position shot. It was also the first free position shot of her career.
She followed that performance by recording her first career assist against Ivy League member Brown on Saturday, March 15. Soto delivered a well placed pass inside to junior Brigit Hogan who shot and scored.
At Stony Brook, Soto also controlled a pair of draws and picked up a ground ball. In addition, she posted three ground balls and a draw control against the Bears on Saturday.
On the season, Soto ranks third on the team in draw controls with six and is tied for third on the squad in ground balls with eight.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday, March 22 against Vermont. The Blue Devils and Catamounts are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Arute Field. CCSU will also play home games on March 25 against Lafayette and March 29 against Howard before opening NEC play on the road April 4.
