Women's Lax Hosts Sacred Heart Friday
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team will host the Pioneers on Senior Day.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team hosts the Pioneers of Sacred Heart at Arute Field in the final home game of the 2014 season. It is also Senior Day as the Blue Devils say goodbye to the five members of the women's lacrosse Class of 2014.
The Blue Devils (5-9, 2-3 NEC) and Pioneers (4-9, 2-3 NEC) enter today's game tied for fourth in the Northeast Conference standings with two games left in the regular season. Both teams will wrap the regular season on Sunday with CCSU at LIU Brooklyn and SHU at Bryant.
Here are some notes on the Blue Devils heading into today's meeting...
• This is the 15th meeting between these programs and the 15th straight season that the teams have played. The Pioneers hold a 13-1 advantage in the series, but the Blue Devils beat Sacred Heart 9-6 on Arute Field last season.
• The Blue Devils are saying goodbye to seniors Ashley Olhausen, Cierra Ward, Meaghan McCurry, Claire Healy and Amanda Toke. Over the last four seasons the CCSU women's lacrosse program has won 28 games matching last year's class for the most wins in a four-year period.
• With two games left in the regular season the Blue Devils must win today to remain in the hunt for an NEC Tournament berth. CCSU can clinch a playoff berth today with a victory over Sacred Heart paired with a Bryant win against LIU Brooklyn.
