Alexandra Hooker Earns NEC Weekly Honor
Women's lacrosse freshman Alexandra Hooker was named NEC Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Central Connecticut women's lacrosse freshman Alexandra Hooker was named Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. Hooker led the Blue Devils with five goals in Saturday's 22-7 victory over Howard.
The Blue Devils jumped out to an 8-0 lead on Saturday with Hooker scoring three times during CCSU's opening run. With three of the team's first eight goals, Hooker was able to record her first career hat-trick in less than 17 minutes of action.
She added her fourth goal late in the first half and then recorded her fifth of the day in the second half.
Hooker is the first CCSU player to tally five goals this season. It is also the first five-goal performance for a CCSU player since senior Meaghan McCurry scored five times against Quinnipiac on April 20, 2012.
The 22 goals scored by the Blue Devils are the second highest single-game total in program history. The record of 23 was set in a 23-17 victory over Saint Francis U in April 2010.
Hooker's five goals led a team effort on offense that saw 11 different players score a goal.
Hooker, who also had three ground balls and a caused turnover against Howard, is the second Blue Devil to earn NEC rookie honors this season. Freshman Marissa Soto earned the honor on March 17 after a week in which she registered her first career goal and assist.
The Blue Devils will open Northeast Conference play on Friday, April 4 at Mount St. Marys.
