Putman Named NEC Field Athlete of the Week
Senior Dashawn Putman earned NEC Field Athlete of the Week honors after breaking the CCSU school record in the high jump at the CCSU Track & Field Invite on Saturday in New Britain.
Senior Dashawn Putman of the Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team was named the Northeast Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week in a release by the league front office on Tuesday afternoon. The senior opened up the 2016 outdoor track and field campaign by breaking the CCSU school record in the high jump this past Saturday at the CCSU Track & Field Invite hosted by the Blue Devils in New Britain.
Putman cleared 2.08 meters (6' 9.75") on his first attempt on Saturday which broke the CCSU school record previously held by Liddon Norman at 6' 9.5" since 2001. The height, which is six centimeters greater than the qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships, puts Putman in the No. 1 spot on the NEC leader board. The Bristol, CT product, who finished second at the NEC Indoor Championships this winter, is also one of just 31 athletes in the NCAA East Region to clear at least 2.08 meters so far this outdoor season.
The result earned Putman a first palce finish in the event and 10 points towards the Blue Devils team score as Central would go on to win the CCSU Track & Field Invite with a team total of 225 points to finish ahead of Massachusetts (201.5) and Sacred Heart (86.5).
Putman and the rest of the CCSU men's track and field team will return to action next on Friday, April 8 at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University.
