Men's Indoor Track and Field Earn NEC Honors
11 earn All-NEC honors from the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Northeast Conference announced the all-conference selections for the indoor track and field season in a release on Thursday afternoon. Central Connecticut, who finsihed runner-up at the 2016 NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships, had 11 All-NEC selections. The Blue Devils had a pair of representatives named to the All-NEC First Team, five All-NEC Second Team selections and four on the NEC All-Rookie Team.
Junior Joseph Gioielli and sophomore Sam Borecki each earned gold medals at the 2016 indoor championships en route to picking up All-NEC First Team honors. Gioielli crossed the finish line first in the men's mile (4:11.31) and Borecki bested the field in the pole vault (4.80m).
Senior Matt Walker earned All-NEC Second Team honors in both the 3,000m and 5,000m runs with second-place finishes in each event. Classmate Dashawn Putman (high jump) joined him on the second team, along with freshman Edwin Alston (60m hurdles). The Blue Devils Distance Medley Relay Team also earned a spot on the second team.
The NEC All-Rookie Team featured Alston (60m hurdles), Alex Norstrom (3,000m and 5,000m) and Amaziah Gadson (triple jump) as they were all the highest placing freshman in each of their respective events.
