Gioielli and Men's Track & Field Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors
The Blue Devils earned team academic award for sixth straight year.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team and junior Joseph Gioielli were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic performance during the 2015-16 season it was announced on Thursday.

The Blue Devils were honored for the sixth consecutive year after compiling a 3.02 team GPA. Central claimed its third straight Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field championship earlier this spring.
In order to selected as an All-Academic Team a team must have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. All told, there were 122 men's teams and 220 women's teams to earn the distinction.
Gioielli was among 570 individuals to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Gioielli earned All-NEC First Team honors in the 1,500 meter event during both the indoor and outdoor seasons after winning the event at the Championships. He also earned Second Team honors for the 800 meter during the outdoor season.
