Henry Wins 60 Meter Hurdles, Men's Track and Field Fifth at URI Coaches' Tribute Meet
The CCSU men's indoor track and field team recorded a fifth place finish out of 11 teams at the Coaches' Tribute Meet on Saturday afternoon in Kingston, RI.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team recorded a fifth place finish out of 11 teams at the Coaches' Tribute Meet on Saturday afternoon in Kingston, RI. Central racked up 51.5 points as eleven Blue Devils finished inside the top-eight to score for CCSU. The meet was held inside Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

Central saw 18 of its 51.5 points come in the 60 meter hurdles finals as three Blue Devils finished inside the top-eight, including freshman Tyrik Henry who won the event. The rookie claimed the gold medal crossing the finish line first with a time of 8.32 to earn 10 points for his team. Classmate Quincy Sanchez and sophomore Tyler Latham joined Henry in the finals heat. Sanchez finished fourth with a time of 8.42 to earn five points and Latham turned in a sixth place finish with a time of 8.43, good for three points.
Sophomore Malik Gordon recorded the second best finish of the day for the Blue Devils picking up a runner-up finish in the high jump. Gordon cleared 1.94 to earn the result and grab eight points for CCSU. Freshman Amaziah Gadson also scored in the high jump for the Blue Devils. The rookie cleared 1.89 meters for a fifth place finish and 3.5 points.
In the 800 meter run, Richard Grudzwick logged a third place finish for Central. The freshman completed the race with a time of 1:55.63 to record the finish and six points for the Blue Devils.
Junior Kwency Crittenden leaped to the 13.81 meter mark in the triple jump at the Coaches' Tribute Meet for a fourth place finish. The result earned Crittenden and the Blue Devils five points towards their total.
Junior Zach Andrews and sophomore Mike Lang both registered fifth place finishes for CCSU on Saturday. Andrews recorded his in the 400 meter run after completing the race with a time of 51.23. Lang's fifth place finish came in the long jump where he leaped 6.74 meters. Andrews and Lang both earned the Blue Devils four points towards the team score.
Zach Torro grabbed a point for Central when he launched the shot put to 13.93 meters. The distance slotted the sophomore eighth overall in the event.
Rounding out the scoring for the Blue Devils on Saturday was CCSU's 4x400 relay team. The team of junior Kendall Walker, junior Will Ribeiro, Grudzwick and Sanchez combined to finish with a time of 3:31.56 to finish in eighth place overall and earn two points.
The host team, Rhode Island, won the Coaches' Tribute Meet totaling 225.5 points over the 17 events. They were followed by Brown (102) and Providence (77). New Hampshire was fourth with 62.5 points and Central Connecticut rounded out the top-five with a total of 51.5 points.
The CCSU men's indoor track and field team will return to action next on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The meet will be held at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, MA.
