Gioielli Earns NEC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Blue Devils host Northeast Conference Track & Field Championships beginning Saturday.
Junior Joseph Gioielli of the Central Connecticut men's track and field team earned Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors it was announced on Tuesday. Gioielli was one of five Blue Devils to win gold last weekend when he won the 800 meter run at the UNH Pre-Conference Meet in Durham, NH.
NORTHEAST CONFERENCE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS INFORMATION
Gioielli earned gold in the 800 by clocking a time of 1:53.87, topping the field of 32 entrants. The time also achieved the automatic qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships. Gioielli set the program-record in the 800m (1:50.23) at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational and owns the second-fastest time among NEC runners during the outdoor season. Gioielli owns the league's top time in the 1500m this season.
Gioielli and the rest of the CCSU men's track and field team is back in action at home at the NEC Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday. Central Connecticut is the two-time defending champion and is hosting the championships for the first time.
