Latham Earns NEC Field Athlete of the Week Honors
Sophomore Tyler Latham was tabbed the NEC Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after he broke the CCSU school record and finished in second place this past Thursday and Friday at the Elm City Challenge in New Haven, CT.
Sophomore Tyler Latham of the Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team was named the NEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week in a release by the NEC front office on Tuesday afternoon. Latham smashed the CCSU school record and recorded a second place finish in the heptathlon at the Elm City Challenge this past Thursday and Friday to earn the NEC Athlete of the Week of honors.

Latham, who was tabbed the 2015 NEC Outdoor Rookie of the Year after helping lead the Blue Devils to their second straight NEC outdoor championship, began his 2015-16 indoor season on a high note setting five new personal records over seven events in route to annihilating the CCSU school record by accumulating 5,046 total points. He breaks a record that he had previously set last season at 4,555.
The sophomore from Mystic, CT posted NEC-leading marks in the high jump (1.97m) and long jump (6.76m), while his pole vault performance (3.30m) is ninth on the league's performance list. Latham's runner-up Heptathlon point total at the Elm City Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut in New Haven, CT is also the fifth-highest on the early-season IC4A regional leader board.
Latham and the rest of the CCSU men's indoor track and field team will return to action next in the new year on Jan. 9 at the Yale Collegiate Invite at Coxe Cage in New Haven, CT.
