Peel Among Nominees for Allstate NABC Good Works Team
Award recognizes the contributions of players through volunteerism and civic involvement.
Senior Brandon Peel of the Central Connecticut men's basketball team is among the nominees for the 2016 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams it was announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company on Wednesday. Peel is among an all-time high of 257 nominees for the award.

"The community service efforts from the nominees on the 2016 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams are an inspiration to Allstate, our agents and our employees," said Thomas Clarkson, president of the west territory for Allstate Insurance Company and a member of the 2016 NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams selection panels. "Allstate is honored to embark on another year of collaboration with the NABC and WBCA, and together recognize student-athletes for their unwavering commitment to making a difference."
Peel has been a standout on the court and in his work with various organizations on campus and in the community. He has been part of the Central Connecticut Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Collegiate Athlete Peer Advisors. As a member of SAAC, Peel has helped provide a voice for the student-athletes on campus and promote a positive image of student-athletes. The group has also worked on numerous community service efforts involving Central student-athletes. He has worked with CAPA to empower and strengthen student athletes to speak out against and work toward ending intimate partner violence on campus. Peel has also worked with Interval House CT, which is dedicated to providing services to prevent and break the cycle of family and intimate partner abuse.
On the court, Peel is the lone senior for the Blue Devils and currently leads the Northeast Conference in rebounding at 10.0 per game. He is also second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game and has posted three double-doubles, which also leads the NEC.
In its fourth year, the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams recognize players at all levels of college basketball who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. From establishing nonprofits that provide youth with the necessary tools to become leaders of tomorrow, to raising awareness around pertinent issues that could save lives, these student-athletes exhibit impeccable leadership skills both on and off the court.
The 154 NABC nominees and the 103 WBCA nominees were submitted by sports information directors and college basketball coaches across the country. From the nominations, special voting panels will select two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.
Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team will be invited to the 2016 NABC Convention and 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four in Houston, where they will participate in a community service project benefitting the city. Members of the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team will be recognized during the 2016 WBCA Convention and at the 2016 NCAA Women's Final Four in Indianapolis, and will also participate in a local volunteer project.
