Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches at Hartford Invitational
CCSU opens Northeast Conference play on Friday against LIU at home.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team split two matches at the Hartford Invitational on Saturday in West Hartford, CT. CCSU opened the day with a 3-1 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore before falling to Hartford, 3-1, in the finale. Central begins Northeast Conference play on Friday against LIU.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central raced out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set and never trailed. CCSU scored five straight to extend its lead to 20-11 late and took the set.
- The second set was tied 9-9 before CCSU scored three straight points. UMES would get within 19-18 before a kill by senior Gala Galabova and an ace by senior Erin McDermott helped close the frame.
- UMES built an 8-3 lead in the third frame and would hold off the Blue Devils to extend the match.
- CCSU trailed 6-2 in the fourth frame but would claw back to take a 22-20 lead after four straight points. Trailing, 23-22, CCSU took advantage of an error and back-to-back kills by junior Samantha McCreath to win the match.

NOTES
- Central had attack percentages above .300 in the final two sets and hit .258 as a team for the match.
- McCreath, junior Morgan Woycik and senior Madelyn Kaprelyan each had eight kills to lead CCSU.
- Kaprelyan had a team-high 23 assists with six digs and six blocks.
- Junior Ashlyn Eisenga had 19 of Central's 58 digs.
- Senior Erin McDermott had a team-high three aces, to go along with 15 assists.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central opened the match by building an 8-2 lead in the opening frame. Hartford would close within, 14-10, before CCSU closed the set 25-17.
- Hartford led throughout the second set, but CCSU was trailing just 15-14 midway through the set. The Hawks would score five straight, forcing a timeout, to take control of the set.
- The Hawks outscored the Blue Devils, 8-1, to build an 13-6 lead. Hartford used a 10-3 run to close the frame.
- Hartford pulled away in the fourth set with five straight points to go ahead, 18-10. CCSU was unable to get closer than six points the rest of the way.
