Freshman Brooke Morabito Shines for CCSU in Day One of the NEC Championships
The Blue Devils sit in 6th place after day one on Saturday.
The women's track and field team currently sits at 6th place in the 2021 Northeast Conference Championships in Smithfield, RI. Freshman Brooke Morabito starred for the Blue Devils, taking gold in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:44.09. The New Milford, CT native earned 10 of the team's 21 points on Saturday. Saint Francis University leads the championships with 46 points.
Senior Hailey Rospierski had an eventful afternoon, competing in three different events. She continued her season-long domination in hurdles, winning the 100 meter prelims with a time of 14.02. Rospierski finished in fourth place in the high jump, posting a best mark of 1.58m. The Alden, NY native also placed fifth in the high jump and in all earned nine points for the Blue Devils. She will have a chance to take gold in the hurdles event tomorrow.
Ashley Dana placed fifth in the 1500 meter prelims with a time of 4:59.31. She also took fifth in the 800 meter prelims with a time of 2:18.21 and will represent CCSU in both events tomorrow.
Freshman Magnalen Camara posted a strong showing in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.92 and will run again in the finals.
The foursome of Kamilah Diaz, Briyanna Labbie, Annaly Khanthaphixay, and Margaret LoSchiavo earned one point for the Blue Devils with a time of 10:13.73 in the 4 x 800m finals.
