Women's Outdoor Track & Field Earns NEC Sportsmanship Award
League honors 10 teams from spring season.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team was named the winner of a 2016 Spring Team Sportsmanship Award it was announced on Wednesday. The league honored winners in each of the 10 sports sponsored by the NEC during the spring season.
The awards were instituted by league Presidents in 2008 and are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
Central has had two team honored with Sportsmanship Awards in 2015-16, with the volleyball team being honored during the fall. In 2014-15, CCSU was tied for the most among NEC schools with four teams earning Sportsmanship Awards.
The Blue Devils finished sixth at the NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which were held at CCSU for the first time. Three CCSU student-athletes earned All-NEC recognition across six events, including sophomore Brittany Mendelson who was named the NEC Women's Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer at the NEC Championships.
