Women's Track and Field Sixth at NEC Outdoor Championships
Mendelson highlights day two with two gold medal
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team finished in sixth place at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on the campus of CCSU on Saturday and Sunday. Junior Brittany Mendelson highlighted Sunday for the Blue Devils with gold medals in the 1,500 meter and the 5,000 meter and was named the women's distance performer of the meet.
Mendelson took her first win of the day by pulling away in the 1,500 meter with a time of 4:41.49. She won the 5,000 meter in 18:02.35 for her second win of the day.
Senior Mara Lieberman earned a spot on the medal stand in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.09 to place third.
Freshman Sierra Nesmith turned in a third-place time in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.52.
The Blue Devils opened the second day of competition with a pair of runners placing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Junior Ally Gates turned in a fourth-place finish in the event and clocked a time of 11:17.05. Freshman Madeline Mondo picked up two points and turned in a time of 11:39.76.
Junior Sarah Hicks placed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.57 to earn three points for the Blue Devils.
Junior Sherise Truman clocked a time of 25.31 in the 200 meters to place seventh and pick up points for CCSU.
Central turned in a time of 48.65 in the 4x100 meter relay to place fifth. Hicks, Truman, Nesmith and freshman McKenna Kilian ran the relay.
The 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Taylor Boncal, Truman, Kilian and junior Jazmin Booker placed sixth with a time of 4:09.01.
Sacred Heart won the team competition on the women's side with 183 points, followed by LIU Brooklyn (158) and Fairleigh Dickinson (85). Robert Morris (81) and Mount St. Mary's (74) were just ahead of Central Connecticut.
