Women's T&F Compete on Opening Day of NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships
The Blue Devils have 10 points after the first day of competition.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team opened competition at the 2016 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday hosted by the Blue Devils at the CCSU Track & Field Complex in New Britain. The Blue Devils scored in a pair of events and had four runners qualify for the finals in events to be run in day two of competition on Sunday.
Sacred Heart currently leads the women's side of action after scoring 81 points through the first six scored events competed in on Saturday. Robert Morris sits in second with 35 points followed by Saint Francis U in third with 22 points to round out the top three teams. Mount Saint Mary's is fourth with 20 points followed by LIU Brooklyn (19) and Fairleigh Dickinson (19) tied for fifth. Wagner (15) is sixth ahead of Bryant (13), Central Connecticut (10) and St. Francis Brooklyn (0).
Freshmen Cecelia Blamahsah and McKenna Kilian scored CCSU's first points of the day after they tied for sixth in the high jump. They both cleared 1.50 meters to score five points combined for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils 4x800 meter relay team turned in a time of 9:24.66 to place fourth and collect five points in the day's final event.
Senior Mara Lieberman qualified for the finals of the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.47.
Junior Sarah Hicks qualified for the finals in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.74.
Junior Sherise Truman will run in the finals of the 200 meters after running 25.13 in the prelims.
Freshman Sierra Nesmith moves onto Sunday's finals in the 400 meter hurdles after running a personal-best 1:02.90 in the prelims.
