Women's Track & Field Finishes Sixth at UNH on Saturday
The CCSU women's outdoor track and field team competed at the 2016 UNH Pre-Conference Meet hosted by the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH on Saturday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team competed at the 2016 UNH Pre-Conference Meet hosted by the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils posted a team score of 42 points to finish in sixth place out of seven teams.
UMass Amherst won the meet with a team score of 155 points. Host team, New Hampshire, finished runner-up with 124.5 points followed by Maine at 74 points to round out the top three teams.
OFFICIAL RESULTS
Junior Sherise Truman ran 13.00 in the women's 100 meter run to record a third place overall finish and pick up six points for the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Taylor Boncal also grabbed a third place finish and six points for CCSU on Saturday, but in the 400 meter dash. Boncal crossed the finish line with a new personal-best time of 58.96 to earn the result.
Freshman Madeline Mondo ran a personal-best time in the 1,500 meter run in her second time contesting in the event in her rookie season. Mondo ran 5:01.03 to record the PR and picked up a 12th place finish out of 22 runners in the event.
In the 100 meter hurdles, junior Sarah Hicks sprinted to a third place finish running 15.39, while freshman Sierra Nesmith recorded a runner-up finish in the 400 meter hurdles turning in a time 1:04.47. Freshman McKenna Kilian joined Nesmith in the 400 meter hurdles and finished fifth with a time of 1:06.67.
Kilian then followed that up with an 11th place finish in the high jump. She leapt to the 1.49 meter mark, just .01 meters shy of her season-best distance.
Senior Chelse Terry led the way for the Blue Devils in the field events. The veteran finished in second place in the women's discus and then followed that up with an eighth place finish in the hammer throw. Terry sent the discus 40.06 meters for the runner-up finish and then fired the hammer to the 44.81 meter mark for the eight place finish.
The CCSU outdoor track and field team will return to action next with the Northeast Conference Championships hosted by the Blue Devils in New Britain at the CCSU Track & Field Complex on May 7-8.
