WTF Sets School Records Competing at John Thomas Terrier Classic
Two school records set by Blue Devils on Friday.
Juniors Brittany Mendelson and Melissa Wolliston set school records as the Central Connecticut women's track and field team competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, MA. The facility will host the New England Championships and IC4A Championships that the Blue Devils will compete in at the end of February and early March.

Wolliston set a school-record in the 60 meter hurdles for the second straight weekend. She clocked a time of 8.74 to place fourth in the event and top her own school-record set last weekend.
Classmate Sarah Hicks and freshman Sierra Nesmith both represented Central Connecticut in the 60 meter hurdles. Hicks turned in a time of 9.11 and Nesmith clocked in at 9.42.
Mendelson set a new mark in the 3,000 meter run, finishing in 9:58.15, good enough for 33rd. The previous record was set by Krisztina Dearborn in 2013 when she ran 10:08.33.
Senior Ally Gates also ran the 3,000 meter event and clocked a time of 10:41.50
Junior Sherise Truman led a trio of Blue Devils in the 60 meter dash. Truman clocked a time of 7.97. Freshmen Eugenia Weaver and Antonia Newman turned in times of 8.28 and 8.31, respectively.
In the 400 meter dash, four Blue Devils set personal bests. Wolliston turned in a time of 58.79, followed closely by Nesmith at 58.92. Sophomore Taylor Boncal set a personal best with a time of 59.45 and freshman Samantha Hartmayer ran a collegiate personal best in 1:00.29.
Truman paced the Blue Devils in the 200 meter dash by running a season-best 25.57. Boncal and Newman turned in identical times of 26.42, setting personal records.
Junior Jazmin Booker ran a personal best 5:21.21 in the one mile run. Sophomore Victoria Cronin turned in a time of 5:26.27. Freshman Dawn Hubbell ran race in 5:36.77 and classmate Madeline Mondo finished in 5:37.58.
Boncal, Hartmayer, Nesmith and Wolliston ran the 4x400 meter relay and clocked a time of 4:00.01.
In the field events, senior Chelse Terry placed sixth in the weight throw. Terry tossed the weight throw 16.47 meters, just .02 off her school record and qualified her to compete in the ECAC Championships.
Terry placed 31st with a throw of 10.96 meters in the shot put. Sophomore Abrah Toomey tossed the shot put 10.14 meters.
In the long jump freshman McKenna Kilian leapt to a mark of 4.78 meters. Kilian also cleared 1.50 meters in the high jump. Junior Amanda Kulas cleared 2.75 meters in the pole vault.
The CCSU women's indoor track and field team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Coachest Tribute Meet in Mackal Fieldhouse at Kingston, RI.
