Women's Track and Field Completes URI Coaches' Tribute Meet on Saturday
The CCSU women's indoor track and field team recorded a seventh place finish out of 11 teams at the Coaches' Tribute Meet on Saturday afternoon in Kingston, RI.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team recorded a seventh place finish out of 11 teams at the Coaches' Tribute Meet on Saturday afternoon in Kingston, RI. Central racked up 22 points as nine Blue Devils finished inside the top-10 on the day for CCSU. The meet was held inside Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

Central saw nine of its 22 points come in the 60 meter hurdles finals as two Blue Devils finished inside the top-eight scoring positions, including junior Melissa Wolliston who finished third in the event. The junior claimed the bronze medal crossing the finish line with a time of 8.88 to earn six points for her team. Classmate Sarah Hicks joined Wolliston in the finals heat. Hicks finished sixth with a time of 9.11 to earn three points. Freshman Sierra Nesmith also competed in the event in the preliminary round and finished within the top-10 recording a 10th place finish with a personal best time of 9.13.
Junior Brittany Mendelson also recorded a third place finish on the day for the Blue Devils picking up a bronze medal in the 1,000 meter run. Mendelson raced across the finish line crossing with a final time of 3:03.72 to earn the result and six points for the team.
In the 200 meter run, Sherise Truman logged a sixth place finish for Central. The junior completed the race with a time of 26:00 to record the finish and three points for the Blue Devils.
Rounding out the scoring for the Blue Devils on Saturday was CCSU's 4x400 relay team. The team of junior Jazmin Booker, junior Paxton McNierney, freshman Dawn Hubbell and Mendelson combined to finish with a time of 4:38.39 to finish in 10th place overall and earn four points.
Junior Taylor Boncal sprinted to a time of 1:20.33 in the 500 meter run at the Coaches' Tribute Meet for a ninth place finish.
In the field events, a pair of freshman picked up ninth place finishes to slot themselves inside the top-10 at the Coaches' Tribute Meet on Saturday. Cecelia Blamahsah logged her ninth place finish in the high jump for the Blue Devils. The rookie cleared 1.56 meters to earn the result. McKenna Kilian picked up her ninth place finish in the long jump. She leaped to 5.00 meters for the result.
UMass Amherst won the Coaches' Tribute Meet totaling 168.5 points over the 17 events. They were followed by Brown (140) and Rhode Island (117.5). New Hampshire was fourth with 79 points and Stonehill rounded out the top-five with a total of 37 points. Providence was sixth with 32 points just ahead of the Blue Devils in seventh with 22. They finished ahead of American Int'l (20), Bryant (18), Franklin Pierce (8) and Coast Guard (4).
The CCSU women's indoor track and field team will return to action next on Friday, Feb. 12 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The meet will be held at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, MA.
