Freshman Sierra Nesmith was the lone Blue Devils to compete at the ECAC Championships for Central and she raced in the 400 meter hurdles on Saturday afternoon. The rookie turned in an 11th place overall performance out of 31 runners with a new personal-best time of 1:02.22. The time breaks her previous collegiate-best mark of 1:02.90 which she set in the preliminaries at the NEC Championships last weekend.
At the NEICAAA Championships, senior Mara Lieberman contested in the 800 meter run for the Blue Devils. In her final collegiate meet the veteran set a new personal-best time in the event crossing the finish line in 2:14.64 to pick up an 11th place overall finish out of 31 athletes.
A trio of Blue Devils raced in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Saturday. Senior Ally Gates led the way recording an 11th place finish with a finishing time of 11:19.09. Freshman Madeline Mondo and junior Jazmin Booker joined Gates in the event and finished 19th and 26th, respectively. Mondo finished with a time of 11:51.43 while Booker ran 12:45.59.
After competing and finishing 11th in the hammer throw yesterday, Chelse Terry responded with a huge performance on Saturday in the discus throw at the NEICAAA Championships. The senior hurled the discus 43.44 meters, which was over two meters farther than her previous collegiate-best mark that she posted back in 2013, to earn a third place overall finish in the event. The bronze medal distance was also just 20 centimeters shy of the CCSU school record which has stood for 40 years.
