Mendelson Tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week
Freshman Brittany Mendelson posted a time of 5:00.63 in her first collegiate one mile race.
Central Connecticut freshman Brittany Mendelson was tabbed by the Northeast Conference as the NEC Rookie of the Week for her impressive performance this past weekend at the Boston University Terrier Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
Mendelson contested the mile run for the first time as a collegian on Friday and her time of 5:00.63 moved her into second place on the NEC leader board.
Although the first-year Blue Devil's time is just shy of the ECAC Championship qualifying standard, it is more than 7.0 seconds better than the winning mark at the 2013 NEC Indoor Championships. Thus far this season, only Sacred Heart's Brianna Castrogivanni has logged a faster mile time in the NEC.
Mendelson and the rest of the Blue Devils are set to return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 when they travel to Kingston, RI.
