Women's T&F Competes at Boston University Friday
The Blue Devils traveled to Boston, MA Friday to compete at the Boston University Terrier Invitational.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team traveled to Boston, MA to compete at the Boston University Terrier Invitational Friday. The meet was the fourth of the indoor season for the Blue Devils, who will travel to Kingston, RI on Saturday, Feb. 1 to compete at the URI "Coaches" Coed Invitational.
Reigning NEC Field Athlete of the Week Ronea Saunders claimed the only top-five finish for CCSU. She placed third overall in a deep field of 29 competitors with her height of 1.70m (5' 7").
Also competing in the field events, sophomore Chelse Terry finished 29th in the shot put out of 45 throwers with her distance of 10.87m and 32nd in the weight throw (12.45m).
In the distance events, CCSU posted impressive overall finishes in the one mile run. Out of 125 runners, freshman Brittany Mendelson placed 21st with her time of 5:00.63 as the first NEC representative to cross the finish line. Mendelson was followed by sophomore Ally Gates in 49th, who crossed the line in 5:12.94.
Senior Shelby Tuttle, who has broken her CCSU record in the 60m hurdles already this season, finished the event in 9.12 seconds, just less than a quarter of a second shy of her record. She claimed 18th place overall out of 60 hurdlers and was followed closely by freshman Melissa Wolliston in 19th, who finished in a career-best time of 9.17.
In the 500m dash, junior Taylor LePage was the first Blue Devil to cross the line. She placed 20th out of 55 sprinters with her time of 1:18.82. Junior Jenean McCalla also raced the 500m. She finished in 1:21.77, good for 41st place.
Freshman Alleah Red sprinted to 43rd of 163 overall in the 200m dash with her time of 25.85.
In the 1,000m run, freshman Jazmin Booker finished 26th of 60 in 3:08.38.
The Blue Devils also competed in the 4x400m relay in which LePage, Booker, McCalla and sophomore Alessandra Salmon crossed the finish line in 4:02.74 for 21st of 43.
Saturday kicks off the men's events at the BU Terrier Invitational.
