Blue Devils Sweep Duquesne, St. Francis
The Central Connecticut swimming & diving team swept Duquesne and St. Francis (PA) today at Duquesne. The event hosted Central Connecticut along with St. Francis.
The Central Connecticut swimming & diving team swept Duquesne and St. Francis (PA) today in the team competition at Duquesne. The event hosted both Central Connecticut and St. Francis. The Blue Devils scored a 149 against St. Francis who scored a 110 and scored a 135 over Duquesne's 126.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the Blue Devils finished fourth in a time of 4:06.32. The team was made up of junior Allison Rasile, sophomore Kristina Gulia, junior Katie Lang, and sophomore Erin Massey.
Junior Christine Smith placed second (10:45.61) and junior Lauren Shortell placed third (10:58.60) in the 1000 yard freestyle event.
The women's 200 yard freestyle was won by junior Taylor Friedmann who won the event in a time of 1:53.18. Senior Alex Czaplicki placed third (1:55.86).
Sophomore Helene Neuhaus won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.51. Rasile placed seventh (1:02.61) and junior Hannah Packer placed ninth (1:03.35).
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Gulia came in third (1:07.66) and senior Kristen Malski came in fifth (1:09.90).
Lang placed second in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:11.58. Junior Lauren O'Kelly placed seventh (2:17.42) and sophomore Kathryn Kiely placed ninth (2:22.47).
Neuhaus won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 24.67. Massey came in seventh (26.05) and Shortell came in tenth (27.09).
The 100 yard freestyle was won by Neuhaus (53.47) followed by Friedmann who finished second (53.61).
Czaplicki won the 200 yard backstroke in 2:08.53 and Rasile placed fifth (2:11.98).
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Gulia clocked in at 2:24.80, good for second place. Behind her was Malski who placed fifth (2:31.43) and Smith who placed seventh (2:35.74).
Friedmann came away with a first place finish (5:05.38) in the 500 yard freestyle trailed by Rasile who finished third (5:14.02).
In the 100 yard butterfly, Lang placed third (1:00.37) and Kiely placed eighth (1:06.13).
Czaplicki won the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:08.88. She was followed by a pair of Blue Devils, O'Kelly who placed sixth (2:16.00) and Gulia who finished seventh (2:16.23).
The Blue Devils placed first in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Neuhaus, Lang, Czaplicki, and Friedmann made up the relay team who finished the event in 3:36.39.
Central Connecticut will be back in action at the University of New Hampshire on November 5th at 2 pm.
