Cafferky Named Women's Soccer NEC Rookie of the Week
Cafferky recorder her first collegiate goal on Friday night and earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors.
Central Connecticut women's soccer defender Jennifer Cafferky was named NEC Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Cafferky and the Blue Devils went 2-1 this past week. They defeated Yale on Monday night and Sacred Heart on Friday night at home before dropping a 1-0 contest on the road at Wagner on Sunday.
Cafferky was recognized for a strong performance in Friday nights matchup against NEC foe Sacred Heart where she recorded her first career goal as a Blue Devil. She also provided stability in the back four of CCSU's defense throughout the entire week.
The 5-10 rookie from Boras, Sweden solidified a Blue Devil victory on Friday night against the Sacred Heart Pioneers. With under three minutes to play in the match and the Blue Devils leading 1-0, sophomore Kelly Halligan sent a corner kick into the box. Cafferky was able to square the ball on her head and direct it on target to beat the SHU keeper and give the Blue Devils a 2-0 advantage. The goal also marks the first points of her career.
CCSU now sits 7-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in Northeast Conference play.
