Women's Soccer Falls To Wagner On Sunday
The women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Wagner on Sunday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Wagner on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils are now 7-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the Northeast Conference. Wagner improves to 7-6-2 and 3-1-1 in NEC play with the victory.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half and CCSU held an 8-2 advantage in shots at the break. The Blue Devils' defense also did not allow a single shot on goal in the entire first half.
Wagner's Johanna Konrad scored the games only goal at the 73:14 mark to lift the Seahawks. Konrad took a pass from teammate Alyssa Azzinaro, bounced the ball to herself behind the Blue Devil defense and beat sophomore keeper Nicki Turley into the lower right corner of the goal.
Turley finished the match with one save and her record on the season now drops to 5-5-3.
CCSU outshot the Seahawks 17-5 in the match, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Blue Devils also held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
Sophomore Morgan Santoro led the Blue Devils on offense with six shots. Classmate Kelly Halligan also contibuted three shots.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Oct. 25 when they host Bryant in a Northeast Conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the CCSU Soccer Field. Fans can watch live, for free on NECFrontRow.com.
