Women's Soccer Edged By Saint Francis U Sunday
The Blue Devils return home for their next conference match against Fairleigh Dickinson on Oct. 10.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team lost to Saint Francis (PA) by the score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Devils drop to 4-4-3 overall on the season and 0-1-1 in NEC play. Saint Francis moves to 2-9-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the NEC.
The loss snaps a five game unbeaten streak for the Blue Devils and marks their first loss since dropping a 3-1 decision at home againt UConn exactly one month ago, Sept. 5.
CCSU dominated much of the play in the match despite being on the wrong side of the scoreboard. The Blue Devils held an advantage in shots (18-3), shots on goal (10-2) and corner kicks (4-1).
The Red Flash found the back of the net in the 85th minute on a goal from senior Mackenzie Walker. Walker took a pass from teammate Eloa Nascimento and beat sophomore goalkeeper Nicki Turley to the bottom right corner.
Senior Tori Sousa provided much of the offensive output for the Blue Devils once again. She finished the day with four shots and three shots on goal.
Sophomore forward Alysa Christo also had four total shots with one being on goal and sophomore Kelly Halligan contributed three shots with a pair coming on target.
The Blue Devils return to action on Oct. 10 as they return home for a Northeast Conference matchup against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on the CCSU Soccer Field. Fans who are not in attendance can watch live, for free, on NECFrontRow.com.
