Women's Lacrosse Team Named IWLCA Academic Honor Squad
Blue Devils one of 87 teams nationally to receive honor
The 2015 Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team was named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Squad earlier this week. The Blue Devils are one of just 87 Division I schools nationally to receive the honor.
The criteria for the award is a team grade point average of 3.0 or better. Central last won the award in 2012, when they were one of just 46 squads to earn the national honor.
"This is a great accomplishment for our team, and shows a commitment to their hard work not only on the field but in the classroom," head coach Tanya Kotowicz said. "With more than 14 different majors on our team I am proud of this tremendous accomplishment."
The Blue Devils posted an impressive 3.39 GPA in the fall semester of 2014, and then another impressive mark of 3.33 in the spring semester of 2015.
"We always put an emphasis on being both student and an athlete. The team knows it's their responsibility to perform in the classroom as a student-athlete in this program," Kotowicz said. "The consistency of their academic achievement from fall to spring is impressive. Academics matter in our program and the team showed that all year long."
Central finished the 2015 season, the first under Kotowicz, in a tie for fourth place in the Northeast Conference with a 3-4 league record, including three wins in their final four games. They topped Wagner and Mount St. Mary's, who finished the regular season tied for second place, in their final two contests of the year.
