CCSU Women's Lacrosse Wins 9-8 at Quinnipiac in Triple Overtime
Blue Devils pick up first win of the season on the road on Wednesday
Senior Madison Hughes scored her lone goal of the game in the third overtime as the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season, 9-8, on the road at Quinnipiac. Sophomore Kylie Sullivan and junior Marissa Soto each scored a team-high three goals in the game, and freshman goalkeeper Jackie Branthover made 11 stops in goal as the Blue Devils improved to 1-7 on the season.
The Blue Devils led 5-1 at the half after a solid period that saw Central take a 4-0 lead on goals from four different players. Soto scored her sixth goal of the season followed by a goal less than three minutes later from senior Falynn McCartney, her ninth of the year.
Soto's second goal of the game followed by the first of the day from Sullivan pushed the lead to 4-0. Following a Quinnipiac goal Soto scored her third of the game to make it 5-1 before the half.
Sullivan's second goal of the game to open the second half made it 6-1, but the Bobcats would score the game's next six goals to take a 7-6 lead with 16:15 to play in the second half.
Sullivan tied it up with her third goal of the game at 10:17, but the Bobcats took an 8-7 lead with 5:50 left on a goal from Allison Kuhn.
Freshman Carson Adelberger scored her third goal of the season for the Blue Devils with just 24 seconds on the clock to force overtime.
The two teams were scoreless in the first two overtimes, but Hughes broke the 8-8 tie in the third overtime and gave the Blue Devils their first victory of the year.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Monday, April 4 at Lafayette beginning at 5 p.m.
