Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Game to Bryant on Friday
Blue Devils will play again next Friday at 3 p.m. vs. Sacred Heart
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in Northeast Conference play with a 13-4 loss to Bryant on Friday night in New Britain.
Bryant is now 10-4 overall and 4-1 in NEC play with the victory. Central is next in action next Friday hosting Sacred Heart at 3 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
The Bulldogs took control in the first half building a 5-0 lead with 14:38 left in the period. Jess DeMeo scored three times in the first 15 minutes to give the visitors the edge.
Central answered on a goal from sophomore Kylie Sullivan, her ninth of the season, to cut the lead to 5-1, but the Bulldogs answered with two more goals before the half to build a 7-1 lead at the break.
Bryant built the lead to 11-1 with four straight goals to open the second half.
Junior Marissa Soto scored her 17th goal of the season for the Blue Devils to cut the lead to 11-2. Following a Bryant goal senior Madison Hughes scored her 22nd goal of the year to cut the lead to nine.
Sophomore Marissa Cotroneo scored her third goal of the season in the final minutes to make the eventual final score to 13-4. Sullivan added an assist in the game, as did senior Falynn McCartney and senior Elysa Malecki.
Freshman goalkeeper Jackie Branthover made nine saves in goal for the Blue Devils. Classmate Diana Lenares made four stops in just over seven minutes of action.
Central will play again at home next Friday hosting Sacred Heart at 3 p.m. on Arute Field. The game is the final home game of the season for the Blue Devils.
