Sophomore Edwin Alston was named the Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Central Connecticut sophomore Edwin Alston was named the Northeast Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week as announced on Tuesday, April 11 by the league's front office.
Alston's second appearance of the outdoor season produced a CCSU program record in the 110m hurdles. The second-year Blue Devil crossed the line in 14.17 while contesting the finals at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, FL.
Winning his heat by a notable margin, Alston placed third overall amongst collegiate competitors at the meet. Only Syracuse's Freddie Crittenden and Pittsburgh's Desmond Palmer posted faster finals times than the CCSU sophomore. Alston, who ranks second on the NEC leaderboard, has cracked the NCAA Division I East Region Top 25. His latest time marks a 0.14 second improvement on the Central record that he set in 2016 at Georgia Tech.
Alston, and the rest of the Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team will compete this Thursday and Friday, April 13th-14th at the Southern Connecticut State Decathlon in New Haven, CT.
