Men's Indoor Track and Field Compete at Yale Invite and Nittany Lion Challenge
Blue Devils compete at the Joe Donahue Invite next weekend.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team had a split squad compete at both the Yale Collegiate Invitational and the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday.
YALE COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL RESULTS
NITTANY LION CHALLENGE RESULTS
At the Yale Collegiate Invitational, the Blue Devils took the top four spots in the 60 meter hurdles. Sophomore Edwin Alston won the event with a time of 8.13. Junior Tyler Latham (8.27) was second, sophomore Quincy Sanchez (8.36) placed third and sophomore Franklin Barley was fourth with a time of 8.49. Latham ran a personal-best 8.24 in the prelims.
Freshman Kevorni Welsh led a quartet of Blue Devils in the high jump. Welsh won the event with a jump of 1.89 meter. Freshman Marquis Ward also cleared 1.89 meters and placed third, followed by Latham (1.84m) and junior Sam Borecki (1.79m).
Senior Tyler Raymond also won his event, taking the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:36.66.
The Blue Devils relay team of Andrews, Walker, Grudzwick and Latham won the 4x400 meter with a time of 3.25.03. The CCSU 'B' team placed second with a time of 3:29.28.
Junior Jevon Elmore led a trio of Blue Devils that placed 2-3-4 in the 60 meter dash. Elmore turned in a time of 7.06 and was followed by senior Kendall Walker (7.09) and freshman Evan Walker (7.14).
Freshman Jack St. Clair placed second in the long jump with a personal record leap of 6.71 meters. Sophomore Tyrik Henry was fourth (6.36m) and Evan Walker was fifth (6.29m). Freshman Jarred Creech placed seventh with a leap of 6.22 meters.
Junior Austin Trainor placed second in the 800 meter run. He finished with a time of 1:57.01.
Freshman Marquis Ward placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.58 meters to lead a group of four Blue Devils in the event. Henry placed third (13.28m), and Creech was fourth (13.19m). Welsh placed sixth with a jump of 12.28 meters.
Senior Jeremy Willis placed third in the weight throw with a personal-best throw of 14.72 meters. Senior Zach Torro threw 13.24 to place seventh. Freshman Nana Kissi placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 11.14 meters.
Sophomore Julio Arredondo recorded a time of 2:33.13 to place third in the finals of the 1000 meter run. In the 500 meter run, junior Will Ribeiro placed fifth with a time of 1:08.92.
In the 200 meter dash, St. Clair placed sixth overall with a time of 23.29. Senior Zach Andrews placed 13th (23.69) and freshman Julio Gil-Martinez placed 18th with a time of 24.18.
A pair of runners represented the Blue Devils at the Nittany Lion Challenge at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, PA. Senior Malcolm Connor turned in a time of 1:22.05 in the 600 meter run to place ninth in the even. Senior Joseph Gioielli placed sixth in the 1,000 meter run, turning in a time of 2:25.33.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Joe Donahue Invite in Boston, MA, at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.
