Men's Indoor Track Competes at URI Coaches Tribute/Armory Track Invitational on Friday/Saturday
Blue Devils compete in two separate events over the weekend
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team sent athletes to both the URI Coaches Tribue Invitational and the Armory Invite on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Edwin Alston represented CCSU in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles at the Armory. Alston placed sixth overall, running a time of 8.0 seconds flat. On Friday, Feb. 3, Alston set a new school record, 7.95, in the semifinal race that puts him in 42nd place in the NCAA national rankings, and sixth in the IC4A/ECAC standings.
Senior Joseph Gioielli ran the 800 meter dash, taking seventh place with an IC4A/ECAC qualifying time of 1:51.82. Sophomore Jack St. Clair completed in the long jump with a distance of 6.62m (21'8.75"), finishing in third place overall.
Junior Austin Trainor and rookie Richard Grudzwick acquired top finishes for the Blue Devils at URI. Trainor completed the 1,000 meter run in 2:30.71 and Grudzwick claimed the top spot in the 800 meter dash with a 1:56.06 performance.
The CCSU group of Trainor, senior Malcolm Connor, Grudzwick, and freshman Julio Arredondo won the Distance Medley Relay in a time of 10:32.14.
Juniors Tyler Latham and Jevon Elmore placed second and third in their respective events, the 60 meter hurdles and the 60 meter dash. Elmore ran 7.01 for his third place finish. Latham finished in 8.42. Sophomore Quincy Sanchez was fourth in the hurdles with a time of 8.51.
Rookie's Kevorni Welsh and Marquis Ward placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the high jump. The duo both hit the 1.89 meter mark, setting career-highs in the process. Senior Will Ribeiro ran the 500 meter dash, clocking in at 1:09.17, good for eighth place.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team will travel this Friday, Feb. 11, to Boston University for the David Hemery Invitational.
