After First Round, Men's Golf 7th at Towson
Dan Fanion is tied for ninth place after shooting a 74.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team is currently in 7th place on the leader board at the Whiting Turner Towson Invitational, their first tournament of the spring. The Blue Devils wrote-in a round score of 308 on Sunday and lead Binghamton, Iona, and Towson by one stroke.
The tournament is scheduled for three 18-hole rounds. Sunday saw the first round of the event while Monday and Tuesday will see the second and third rounds respectively. Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, MD is the host site of the tournament.
William & Mary leads the field after round one shooting just three strokes over par and writing in a team score of 290. Rutgers (300), Loyola-Maryland (302), LIU-Brooklyn (304), Fairfield (305), and Indiana of Pennsylvania (305) round out the top-five.
The team was led by Senior Captain Dan Fanion who currently resides in ninth place after his round one score of 74. Fanion is two strokes over par and just six strokes back of the tournament's individual leader Jeremy Wells (68) from William and Mary.
Following Fanion was senior Matthew DeJohn who shot a 77 and is tied for 35th. DeJohn shot just five strokes over par. In his first tournament as a Blue Devil, freshman Jack Ayers finished the first round in a tie for 47th place. The freshman shot a 78 and is six strokes over par.
Sophomore Kevin Jud is seven strokes over par after his day one score of 79. Jud is currently tied for 55th place. Sophomore Monte Mullen penciled in an 80 while freshman Connor Murphy scored an 83. Mullen and Murphy are tied for 65th and tied for 95th resectively.
Tournament action will resume on Monday, April 1st at Prospect Bay Country Club.
