The Central Connecticut men's golf team finished 14th overall of 16 teams after recording a final round score of 312 at the Hartford Hawk Invitational. Central (302/318/312/932) entered Tuesday's round in 12th place but dropped to 14th place following the tournament's final round. Despite their finish, the Blue Devils' 302 team score in the first round marks their lowest round score of the season.
Bulls Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, CT was the tournament's host site. In-state rival Hartford put on the two-day, three-round tournament which was held from September 24th through the 25th. The first two rounds of tournament stroke play were held on Monday, September 24th while the third and final round was played on Tuesday, September 25th.
Hartford (286/298/291/875) claimed the team crown placing first by 20 strokes. Boston College (298/300/297/895) and Sacred Heart (308/298/289/895) shared the event's runner up spot while Rhode Island (297/296/304/897) and UCONN (308/292/299/899) rounded out the top-five.
Central placed six strokes ahead of Northeast Conference rival Bryant (323/317/298/938) and 38 strokes ahead of 16th place Holy Cross (326/323/321/970). The Blue Devils were just 10 strokes shy of the tournament's top-ten finishers.
Sophomore Monte Mullen (78/86/75/239) had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday writing in a final round 75. He finished tied for 64th overall after totaling 239 strokes for the tournament. His 75 was the top score for any Blue Devil on the third and final day.
Leading the Blue Devils overall for the tournament was senior Matthew DeJohn (75/76/79/230). DeJohn just broke 80 on his final 18 which secured a 32nd place individual finish for the senior. He finished 14 strokes over par, 16 strokes off of the tournament's individual champion Brandon Matthews (74/68/72/214) of Temple.
Senior captain Dan Fanion (72/83/76/231) shot his lowest score of the tournament (72) on Monday, one stroke off of his season low round score. Fanion rebounded in the third round with a 76 following his second round score of 83. The senior shared 35th place at 15 strokes over par, a five spot lift from his previous position of 40th place.
Also in the field for the Blue Devils was senior Greg Beloin (77/80/83/240) and freshman Connor Murphy (86/79/82/247). Beloin finished 24 strokes over par and tied for 67th while Murphy shared 76th place at 31 strokes over par.
Central returns to action when they compete in the Yale/Macdonald Cup. The tournament will be held from September 29th to the 30th.
