Men's Golf in 12th Place at Hartford Invite
Matthew DeJohn put in a solid performance after day one shooting a 151.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team compiled 620 strokes after two rounds at the Hartford Hawk Invitational Monday. Central currently stands in 12th place on the team leader board carding a 302 in round one followed by a 318 in round two.
The two-day, three-round tournament is being held at Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, CT. The first two rounds were played on Monday, September 24th and the final round will take place on Tuesday, September 25th wrapping up tournament action.
Topping the team standings after Monday's round is tournament host Hartford who shot a two-round score of 584 (+8). Central is only 10 strokes out of the field's top ten trailing Fairfield (10th) and Iona (11th). The Blue Devils lead Hofstra (13th), Lehigh (14th), Bryant (15th), and Holy Cross (16th).
Senior Matthew DeJohn proved to be consistent on the tournament's opening day starting with a round one 75 and completing his day with a round two 76. DeJohn is in a six-way tie for 21st place and seven strokes over par, just nine strokes off of the tournament leaders Patrick Ross and Brandon Matthews (-2).
Before he wrote a second round score of 83, senior captain Dan Fanion carded the lowest round score for a Blue Devil in the tournament with a 72. He was tied for fourth place after the first round and fell to a 40th place tie on the individual leader board after round two. He is 11 strokes over par with a cumulative score of 155 after Monday.
Senior Greg Beloin is tied for 51st (77/80/157) and 13 strokes over par. Sophomore Monte Mullen (78/86/164) is 20 strokes over par which ties him for 74th. Freshman Connor Murphy (86/79/165) is tied for 74th (+21).
The third and final round of the Hartford Hawk Invitational will resume tomorrow at Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, CT.
