Men's Golf Opens Spring at Embry-Riddle
The Blue Devils were led by Kevin Jud in dual match play.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team kicked-off their spring slate in a dual-match against Embry-Riddle, a member of the NAIA, on Sunday. Central wrote-in a team score of 401 shooting eight strokes back of Embry-Riddle who scored a 393 to claim the match victory.
The single round, 18-hole match was played at LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, FL. LPGA International will be the host site of the 2013 Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championships.
"The conditions were very tough and playing only their third round of the season, all things considered, we did okay. It is tough to be rusty and then have to play in that, man it was tough. " said Head Coach Kevin Giancola of his team's performance on Sunday.
Central was led by sophomore Kevin Jud who carded a 76 in just his sixth round of the 2012-13 season. Jud was followed by sophomore Monte Mullen who scored a 78 and senior Matthew DeJohn who registered a 79.
Freshman Connor Murphy penciled in an 82 and senior captain Dan Fanion scored an 86.
Central Connecticut will return to action on March 31st at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational. The three-day tournament will be held at Prospect Bay Country Club in Graysonville, MD.
