Men's Golf Finishes T10th at UCONN
Dan Fanion put together a three round score of 222.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team dropped to a 10th place tie on the final leader board of the UCONN/Connecticut Cup but improved their score by three strokes from the second round. The Blue Devils (300/304/301/905) compiled 905 strokes after shooting an improved score of 301 on Tuesday compared to Monday's second round 304.
Hartford (300/291/291/882) retained their position on the leader board from day one winning the tournament on the second and final day. Zack Zaback (73/69/69/211) of UCONN was the event's individual winner as an unattached competitor.
UCONN hosted the two-day, three-round tournament which took place at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, CT. The par-72 course played roughly 6,936 yards long. Rounds one and two were held on Monday, October 8th with the third and final round playing out on Tuesday, October 9th.
Senior Captain Dan Fanion (70/77/75/222) strung together a strong third round shooting a 75 and placed tied for 20th. Fanion shot six strokes over-par for the tournament, 11 shots back of Zaback who finished one-under. The senior's opening round 70 was the lowest round score for a Blue Devil at the event.
Senior Greg Beloin (75/75/76/226) and sophomore Monte Mullen (78/74/76/228) followed Fanion on the leader board finishing T38th and T45th respectively. Senior Matthew DeJohn (77/79/74/230) penciled in the lowest score for the Blue Devils on Tuesday with a 74. Sophomore Kevin Jud (79/78/80/237) placed 76th.
Central tied with Northeast Conference rival LIU-Brooklyn (301/298/306/905) and shot six strokes better than Canisius (306/307/298/911).
The Blue Devils will conclude their 2012 fall season at the Fairleigh Dickinson Intercollegiate on October 29th.
