Dolegala Signs With Saskatchewan Roughriders
Former Central Connecticut signal-caller Jake Dolegala has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League it was announced Tuesday. Dolegala has also spent time in the NFL with four organizations since graduating in 2019.
Dolegala left Centralral as the school's all-time leader in passing yardage and touchdowns, becoming just the fifth quarterback in Northeast Conference history to throw for over 8,000 yards. From 2015-18, he threw for 48 career touchdowns. As a senior he completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,221 yards and 16 touchdowns while throwing just six interceptions. He also finished fourth on the team in rushing with 274 yards on the ground to go along with six rushing touchdowns and was a First Team All-Northeast Conference selection.
Dolegala finished his CCSU career 654-of-1136 for 8,129 yards, with 48 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He set the school-record with 2,934 passing yards as a sophomore in 2016, completing 258-of-432 passes while throwing only nine interceptions. He also rushed for 452 yards in his career, including 18 touchdowns.
Dolegala signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and spent the entire season on the active roster. He played in two pre-season games with the Bengals and completed 37 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns. He went on to spend time with the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins.
In 2019, Dolegala became the first CCSU player to make an NFL roster since former offensive lineman and arena league standout Rich Ranglin signed with the Chiefs during the 2012 season. He joins a list of former Blue Devils to sign with teams in the CFL that includes Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame members Kenneth Blasser and Bob Wittneben.
The Roughriders went 9-5 in 2021 and advanced to the Western Final before falling to Winnipeg, the eventual Grey Cup champions. The 2022 season kicks off with week one of the preseason on May 23 when the Roughriders play Winnipeg.
