Football Set to Face Miami on Saturday
Central Connecticut will face an FBS opponent for the first time since 2019 when it travels to Miami for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday. The Blue Devils are coming off a setback to Southeastern Louisiana last week and will play the Hurricanes before heading into the bye week. Miami is off to a 1-2 start after falling to Michigan State last week. This is the first meeting between the programs, while CCSU will be playing an ACC school for the second time after opening the 2017 season at Syracuse.
Fans are permitted at Hard Rock Stadium, but fans are strongly encouraged to adhere to the mask and large event recommentations of the CDC. Unvaccinated Stadium staff will continue to be subject to a mandatory mask policy. TODAY'S GAME • The Blue Devils face an FBS opponent with a trip to Miami of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday. Last week the Blue Devils fell at home to Southeastern Louisiana, which is ranked 16th in the FCS Top 25. Following this week's game, Central will have a bye week before playing its Homecoming game on Oct. 9 against Columbia.

DUAL THREAT • Junior Dexter Lawson has been a standout for the Blue Devils on defense and special teams. Lawson is tied for 2nd in the Northeast Conference with 4 passes defended and an interception. He leads the league with a 20.4 yards kick return average and is also the league leader, averaging 17.0 punt return yards. In his career, Lawson has recorded seven interceptions, which ranks him among the top-12 all-time at CCSU.
OFF AND RUNNING • Senior Nasir Smith has been Central's leading rusher through the season's first three games. He's carried the ball 43 times for 174 yards (4.0 ypc), while also recording a team-high 11 receptions out of the backfield. Smith is coming off a 21-carry, 83-yard day against Southeastern Louisiana. His 17-yard run against the Lions is the second-longest CCSU rush on the year, only topped by Romelo Williams' 18-yard run at Wagner.
RETURNING HOME • Sophomore Romelo Williams, a native of Miramar, FL, has settled in as CCSU's starting quarterback this season. He made his first career start against Southern Connecticut and became just the third Blue Devil since 2016 to start over center for CCSU. Williams went 24-of-38 for 279 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He was the first CCSU quarterback to complete more than 20 passes since Jake Dolegala on Oct. 20, 2018. Through three games he has connected for five touchdowns against just two interceptions and completed 56% of his pass attempts.
ALL HANDS INVOLVED • Through three games, 14 different CCSU receivers have caught at least one pass after having 11 different receivers catch a pass in the opener. Seniors Everett Wormley (11 rec., 172 yds) and Nasir Smith (11 rec., 49 yds) have led the air attack. In the 2019 season, CCSU had 13 different receivers record a catch.
