Football Hosts Southeastern Louisiana in Non-Conference Tilt on Saturday
Central Connecticut returns to Arute Field on Saturday when it welcomes Southeastern Louisiana to New Britain for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff. The Blue Devils won their eighth straight Northeast Conference game with a 21-19 victory at Wagner last week to open conference play. SLU is 1-1 on the season following a loss at Louisiana Tech (42-45) last week. The Lions are ranked 15th in the Stats Perform Top 25 and 16th in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll.
Fans will be permitted at Arute Field and are asked to review the Fan Attendance Policy for fall/winter sports at CCSU. Tailgating will not be allowed on the campus of CCSU.

TODAY'S GAME • The Blue Devils return to Arute Field to host #15/16 Southeastern Louisiana in a non-conference contest on Saturday. The Blue Devils are coming off a win at Wagner to open Northeast Conference play. CCSU will travel to Miami (FL) next week and then have a bye week before returning for Homecoming on Oct. 9 against Columbia.
COVID-19 HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS • All outside visitors attending games at Arute Field this season are asked to follow the health & safety protocols put in place at CCSU. Vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask outdoors. Non-vaccinated individuals are required to wear a mask. The wearing of face masks is required indoors at all CCSU athletics facilities. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and have tension that reasonably seals both the top and bottom of the mask. Individuals are required to follow the state's 3 feet physical distancing guideline both indoors and outdoors. Visitors to campus who are not registered CCSU faculty, staff or students, are required to complete the campus visitor symptom tracker (bit.ly/3lbtYjr) prior to coming to campus. CONFERENCE PLAY • CCSU opened its conference slate with a win at Wagner and is a league-best 18-2 since 2017 in league play. The Blue Devils finished 7-0 in Northeast Conference play in 2019 after posting a 6-0 mark in 2017 and a 4-2 record in 2018. CCSU became the first NEC team to win seven league games since both Wagner and Albany finished 7-1 in 2012.
IT'S BEEN AWHILE • Central has not lost a Northeast Conference game since November 17, 2018. CCSU went unbeaten during the 2019 season (7-0) against league opponents and last dropped a conference game in the final game of 2018, 38-31 at Duquesne.
TIME OF POSSESSION • Central has controlled time of possession in its first two games and ranks third nationally with an average time of possession of 38:37. In the opener, CCSU had a 53:51-20:42 edge which resulted in a big advantage in total offense against Southern Connecticut (445-287).
FIRST IMPRESSIONS • Sophomore Romelo Williams made his first career start against Southern Connecticut and became just the third Blue Devil since 2016 to start over center for CCSU. Williams went 24-of-38 for 279 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He was the first CCSU quarterback to complete more than 20 passes since Jake Dolegala on Oct. 20, 2018, against Sacred Heart. Through two games he has connected for four touchdowns against just one interception and completed 59.0% of his pass attempts.
SPREADING IT AROUND • Through two games, 12 receivers have caught at least one pass. The Blue Devils had 11 different receivers catch a pass in the opener. Seniors Tyshaun James (8 rec., 75 yards) and Everett Wormley (6 rec., 63 yards) led the way and each had a touchdown. In the 2019 season, CCSU had 13 different receivers record a catch.
