Football Hosts Saint Francis U on Senior Day
Central Connecticut travels to Duquesne on Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff on ESPN3. The Blue Devils and Dukes are in a four-way tie for second-place and CCSU has won back-to-back games.

THE GAME • Central returns home for the final regular season contest of the season. The Blue Devils host Saint Francis U in a 12:00 p.m. kickoff. CCSU will recognize its group of seniors prior to their final game at Arute Field.
COVID-19 HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS • All outside visitors attending games at Arute Field this season are asked to follow the health & safety protocols put in place at CCSU. Vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask outdoors. Non-vaccinated individuals are required to wear a mask. The wearing of face masks is required indoors at all CCSU athletics facilities. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and have tension that reasonably seals both the top and bottom of the mask. Individuals are required to follow the state's 3 feet physical distancing guideline both indoors and outdoors. Visitors to campus who are not registered CCSU faculty, staff or students, are required to complete the campus visitor symptom tracker (bit.ly/3lbtYjr) prior to coming to campus. JAMES' BIG DAY • Tyshaun James had a seven-catch, 169 yard game at Duquesne., marking his second 100-yard game of the year. James set a single-game high for receiving yards in the Northeast Conference this season. He currently ranks 2nd in the NEC in receiving yards (641) and is Top-5 in receiving touchdowns (5) and receptions (42). James ranks 4th all-time at CCSU with 111 catches. He has 1,848 yards and 18 touchdowns in his career.
MITCHELL COMES ON STRONG • Shon Mitchell had a career game at Duquesne after taking over during CCSU's second possession of the game. He earned NEC Prime Performer recognition after throwing for 276 yards (15-of-27) and two touchdowns. He also ran for 22 yards on eight carries. In eight games this season he has thrown for 615 yards and four touchdowns. Mitchell ranks 2nd in the league in yards per completion (12.6).
PETTEWAY TO THE HOUSE • Kyren Petteway returned a kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown at Duquesne. It was the first kickoff return by CCSU since Tajik Bagley went 95 yards against Fordham on Sept. 9, 2017. Petteway has averaged 39.0 yards per return on three kickoffs this season.
APPLYING PRESSURE • Senior Kelvin Apari is among the CCSU and NEC defensive leaders. He is 2nd on the team with 44.0 tackles, while also leading CCSU with 5.0 sacks, which ranks 3rd in the NEC, and has 11.5 tackles for loss which ranks 2nd in the league. He ranks 20th nationally in the FCS in TFL per game. Apari had a season-best 14.0 tackles against Columbia, which included 1.5 sacks and 4.0 TFL.
TIME OF POSSESSION • The Blue Devils control the ball for an average of 34:31 per game, which leads the Northeast Conference and the NCAA FCS football subdivision. CCSU held the ball for a season-high 53:51 in the opener against Southern Connecticut. Central held the ball for just 26:19 in its win at Wagner - a season-low.
CONFERENCE PLAY • CCSU has posted a league-best 20-5 record in Northeast Conference play since 2017. The Blue Devils finished 7-0 in Northeast Conference play in 2019 after posting a 6-0 mark in 2017 and a 4-2 record in 2018. CCSU became the first NEC team to win seven league games in 2019 since both Wagner and Albany finished 7-1 in 2012.
