Brown, Lawson Named HERO Sports FCS Preseason All-America
Central Connecticut senior offensive lineman J'Von Brown and junior defensive back Dexter Lawson, Jr were named to the Preseason All-America Third Team by HERO Sports, the FCS organization announced on Wednesday.
Brown, who was limited to just four games due to injury in 2019, earned his second preseason All-America honor heading into the campaign. He anchored the offensive line during the 2018 season, helping the Blue Devils average 289.3 yards per game on the ground in conference play, while ranking 21st nationally with 223.6 rushing yards per game overall. The Blue Devils allowed just 0.73 sacks per game, ranking seventh nationally, while also allowing just 32 tackles for a loss during the year, which led the nation. Brown is a two-time All-Northeast Conference honoree and also earned Second Team All-America honors following the 2018 season.
Lawson is coming off a 2019 campaign in which he was named All-Northeast Conference Second Team. He led the NEC with six interceptions, while also compiling 31.0 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. He added a forced fumble and five pass breakups. He also averaged 10.2 yards per punt return with a long of 36 yards, while averaging 21.2 yards on 11 kick returns.
CCSU collected a first place vote and was picked second in the preseason NEC poll. Central begins the 2021 season at home against Southern Connecticut on Friday, September 3.
