Swimming and Diving in Third Place After Day One at NEC Championships
Thursday's prelims begin at 10 a.m.
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team began the defense of its Northeast Conference Championship on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils, the two-time defending NEC title holders, and six-time champions, sit in third place after a pair of second place finishes in the two relays on Wednesday night.
The Championships are being held at MIT in Cambridge, MA.
Wagner and Bryant are tied for first place with 70 points, followed by CCSU (68), Saint Francis U (64) and Sacred Heart (52). LIU Brooklyn and Mount St. Mary's (52) are tied for sixth and St. Francis Brooklyn is eighth (48).
NEC SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
Day two of the Championships begins on Thursday at 10 a.m.
Central began the night setting a new school record with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of sophomore Kaitlyn Troy, junior Maddy Garber, senior Sabree Thomas and senior Christine Rasile posted a time of 1:40.98 to finish just behind Wagner in the race. The time topped a school record set in 2015.
The Blue Devils then finished second in the 800 yard freestyle relay in a time of 7:27.50, narrowly behind Bryant who won the race. The team of freshman Erika Maercklein, Thomas, sophomore Aidan Devers and senior Stephanie Czulewicz helped the Blue Devils to their second runner-up finish of the night.
Thursday's prelims begin at 10 a.m. They will consist of the 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard IM, 50 yard freestyle, 200 yard free relay and 1 meter diving.
