Fredricks, Durham Earn Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Awards
Blue Devils will host Bryant and Wagner at home this Friday and Saturday
A pair of members of the Central Connecticut swimming and diving team were honored by the Northeast Conference on Tuesday. Junior Annemarie Durham and freshman Alexis Fredricks were honored for their performance at New Hampshire over the weekend.
Fredricks was named the Co-Swimmer of the Week and also the Rookie of the Week for the Blue Devils. Durham was named the NEC Diver of the Week.
Fredericks earned the NEC Co-Swimmer of the Week and NEC Rookie of the Week award after turning in a series of exceptional performances in a dual meet against New Hampshire. The freshman won the 200 backstroke in 2:05.13, the best time in the NEC this season. She also finished first by more than 2 1/2 seconds in the 100 backstroke, posting the fourth swiftest time in the conference this season at 59.38. She also swam the first leg of CCSU's winning 400 medley relay team, and earned second place finishes as part of the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Durham won the 1-meter dive vs. the Wildcats with a score of 258.15, a career-best showing that was just .52 points off the school record. Her score was just seven points shy of an NCAA qualifying mark. Durham followed with a second place finish in the 3-meter competition. Her 245.17 point total was her best of the season.
The Blue Devils return home for their second home meet of the year this Friday and Saturday, hosting Bryant and Wagner at the Suydam Natatorium.
