Garber Wins 200 Breaststroke, Blue Devils Finish Weekend Fifth at Frank Elm Invite
Junior placed first in 200 breast and third in 100 breast over the weekend
Junior Maddy Garber finished first in the 200 breaststroke on Sunday in a time of 2:14.55, an NCAA 'B' cut time, to pace the Central Connecticut swimming and diving team at the Frank Elm Invite at Rutgers University.
The Blue Devils finished fifth as a team with 770 points over the three day meet. They finished ahead of fellow Northeast Conference teams Wagner and LIU Brooklyn, and also topped Liberty, James Madison and LIU Post in the 10 team field.
Garber's time earned 32 points for the Blue Devils and was her second top three finish on the weekend. She also placed third in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday.
Freshman Valentina Gomez began the night with an eighth place finish in the 1,650 freestyle event in a time of 17:19.52. Senior Julia St. Pierre was 28th in the same event with a time of 17:58.00.
Sophomore Aidan Devers finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.30, earning 27 points for the Blue Devils. Freshman Alexis Fredricks was 10th in the same event, second in the B final, with a time of 2:02.53.
Senior Christine Rasile finished third in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 50.62 to pick up 27 points. Junior Lauren Czulewicz finished 21st in a time of 52.36.
Garber's first place finish in the 200 breaststroke was the top swimming finish of the weekend for the Blue Devils. Senior Lisa Ward was 10th overall, second in the B final, in the same event in a time of 2:21.91, to pick up 17 more points.
Senior Sabree Thomas finished 12th overall in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.58, picking up 15 points. Gomez was 17th overall in the same event.
Junior Annemarie Durham placed fourth in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 254.85, picking up 26 points. She had earned a first place finish in the 1 meter event on Friday night with a new school record in points.
Central ended Sunday night with a 13th place finish in the 400 freestyle relay event in a time of 3:30.60. Lauren Czulwicz, Thomas, freshman Erika Maercklein and Rasile swam the top time for the Blue Devils.
