Swimming and Diving Competes at New Hampshire
Alexis Fredricks wins two events for CCSU.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team competed at New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats outscored the Blue Devils, 203-148, at Swasey Pool in Durham, NH.
Freshman Alexis Fredricks won the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 59.38. Sophomore Kaitlyn Troy completed the race in 1:03.47 to place third and freshman Ivy Milne placed fifth with a time of 1:11.60.
Fredricks won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.13. Sophomore Aidan Devers placed third at 2:10.38 and freshman Keelin Kendall was fourth at 2:10.61.
Senior Lisa Ward and freshman Erika Maercklein finished one-two in the 100 yard breaststroke. Ward won with a time of 1:06.81, while Maercklein was just behind at 1:06.93. Sophomore Kailey Demers placed fifth with a time of 1:09.49.
Junior Maddy Garber won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.55. Freshman Grace Regan placed fourth with a time of 2:27.53 and Demers was fifth with a time of 2:28.04.
Freshman Valentina Gomez placed second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.38, while senior Sabree Thomas placed fifth, finishing in 2:15.29.
Gomez also placed second in the 1650 yard freestyle, finishing in 17:39.75. Senior Julia St. Pierre placed fourth with a time of 18:46.59.
Senior Christine Rasile placed second in the 50 yard freestyle. Her time was 24.26, while teammate junior Lauren Czulewicz was third with a time of 25.15. Maercklein placed fifth at 25.39.
Rasile placed second in the 100 yard freestyle, leading a charge of three CCSU swimmers. Rasile finished in 53.73, followed by Maercklein (54.52) and Lauren Czulewicz (54.66).
Thomas and Ward tied for third in the 100 yard butterfly with identical times of 1:00.82.
Rasile placed third in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.29. Junior Lauren Czulewicz placed fifth with a time of 1:57.58.
The Blue Devils finished third, fourth and fifth in the 200 yard IM. Garber placed third at 2:12.53, followed by Ward (2:13.27) and Kendall (2:14.58).
Devers placed third in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:39.74. Garber placed fifth with a time of 4:46.09.
Gomez picked up a third-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.80. Regan turned in a time of 5:26.38 to earn a point for CCSU in the event.
CCSU won the 400 yard medley relay. The team of Alexis Fredricks, Garber, Ward and Rasile finished in 3:55.30. The CCSU "B" team of Troy, Maercklein, Thomas and Lauren Czulewicz placed third (4:03.40).
The team of Thomas, sophomore Victoria Poole, Garber and Ward placed second in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.13.
The Blue Devils' relay teams placed second and third in the 200 yard medley relay. The "A" relay of Alexis Fredricks, Garber, Thomas and Rasile finished in 1:48.58, just ahead of the team of Troy, Maercklein, Ward and Lauren Czulewicz (1:49.78).
CCSU's "A" relay placed second in the 400 yard freestyle. Maercklein, Alexis Fredricks, Lauren Czulewicz and Rasile turned in a time of 3:38.58. The "B" relay of Gomez, freshman Grace Fredricks, Devers and freshman Katelyn Mann turned in a time of 3:43.44 to place third.
Junior Annemarie Durham won the 1 meter diving event, turning in a score of 258.15. Freshman Kirsten Bednarz placed fifth with a score of 196.73.
Durham placed second in the 3 meter event with a score of 245.17 and Bednarz placed fifth with a score of 194.84.
