Blue Devils Top Bryant and Wagner In Tri-Meet on Friday/Saturday
CCSU beat Wagner 221-132 and Bryant 250-103
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team won a two-day tri-meet vs. Wagner and Bryant in the Jack Suydam Natatorium on Saturday. Central topped Wagner 221-132 and Bryant 250-103. Wagner also topped Bryant 208-145 in the meet.
The Blue Devils set another school record on Saturday, topping the previous mark in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Alexis Fredricks, junior Maddy Garber, senior Sabree Thomas and senior Christine Rasile swam in 1:46.68 and beat the second place team by more than five seconds to set the new pool mark.
Junior Annemarie Durham finished third in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 230.00
Sophomore Aidan Devers claimed victory in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:35.56, more than four seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Freshman Grace Regan finished third in the same event in 4:40.01, and senior Stephanie Czulewicz was sixth in 4:51.12.
Rasile claimed the 100 freestyle in 52.01 and junior Lauren Czulewicz was third in 53.99.
Devers won her second event of the second day with a time of 2:05.43 in the 200 yard backstroke. Just behind her was Alexis Fredricks with a time of 2:07.13. Freshman Keelin Kendall was fifth in 2:11.19.
Senior Lisa Ward kept the momentum moving forward for the Blue Devils with a first place finish in the 100 butterfly in a time of 58.75. Senior Sabree Thomas finished third in 59.16.
Freshman Valentina Gomez won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:09.89, finishing ahead of teammate Devers who was second in 5:11.68.
Garber won the 200 yard breaststroke as the Blue Devils took four of the top five spots in the event. Garber swam in 2:23.00, while Ward was third in 2:27.36, sophomore Kailey Demers was fourth in 2:28.49 and Regan was fifth in 2:28.88.
The Blue Devils finished second in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Lauren Czulewicz, Alexis Fredricks, freshman Erika Maercklein and Rasile finished in 3:34.49, just .08 behind first place Wagner.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Nov. 18-20 at the Frank Elm Invitational at Rutgers.
