Swimming and Diving Leads After Day One vs. Bryant and Wagner
Day two begins on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team leads both Bryant and Wagner after the first session of a tri-meet at the Jack Suydam Natatorium on Friday night. The Blue Devils hold a 109-77 lead over Wagner, and a 133-53 lead over Bryant after the first session. Wagner leads Bryant 118-68.
The Blue Devils began the night setting a new pool record in the 200 freestyle relay, swimming in 1:37.90 to beat the old record and claiming first place and 11 points. The team of junior Lauren Czulewicz, freshman Katelyn Mann, freshman Erika Maercklein and senior Christine Rasile posted the victory. The Blue Devils also took fifth place in the event.
Junior diver Annemarie Durham placed first in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 256.20, more than 13 points ahead of the second place finisher Kelci Abernethy of Bryant.
Lauren Czulewicz finished first in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:54.94. Sophomore Aidan Devers was fourth in the same event in 1:56.69.
Freshman Alexis Fredricks was second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.25. Senior Stephanie Czulewicz was sixth in the same event with a time of 1:01.17 for the Blue Devils.
Junior Maddy Garber was first in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:05.79, just under a second ahead of freshman teammate Maercklein (1:05.70). Grace Regan took fourth in the event in 1:07.78 and freshman Keelin Kendall was fifth in 1:08.63.
Freshman Valentina Gomez finished first in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:06.73, while senior Sabree Thomas was third with a time of 2:10.67.
Rasile won the 50 yard freestyle by just under a second with a time of 23.83. Maercklein was fourth in 25.04 for CCSU.
Senior Lisa Ward was third in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:12.56.
Gomez won her second event of the night with a time of 17:41.21 in the 1650 freestyle.
The Blue Devils took home the final event of the night, the 400 yard medley relay, as Alexis Fredricks, Garber, Thomas and Lauren Czulewicz swam 3:53.84 for the victory.
Day two will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the 3 meter diving event.
