Rasile, Durham Earn NEC Weekly Swimming and Diving Honors
Blue Devils preparing to defend their NEC Title next week at NEC Championships
With just over a week remaining before the Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team attempts to win its third straight and sixth over Northeast Conference Championship, the Blue Devils earned a pair of weekly awards on Tuesday.
Senior Christine Rasile was named the league's Swimmer of the Week, while junior Annemarie Durham earned Diver of the Week honors.
Rasile had a record-breaking weekend as Central Connecticut defeated NEC rival LIU Brooklyn on Saturday. Competing in her last home meet, the senior broke an 11-year-old pool record in the 100 freestyle. She won the event in 51:41, which tied her for the fifth-best showing in the NEC for the 2016-17 campaign. Rasile also anchored CCSU's winning 200 medley team with a blazing 23.29 anchor leg. She then swam in the 200 freestyle relay as the Blue Devils won in 1:37.74, which also set a new pool record. Rasile swam the third leg in 23:55 for the fastest split of any swimmer in the race.
Durham won her third straight NEC Diver of the Week Award and fifth overall after leading the Blue Devils from the diving board versus LIU Brooklyn this past weekend. The junior won the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Durham scored 243.45 in the 1-meter dive and then missed breaking her own poll record by 1.30 points with a 279.05 score in the 3-meter dive.
